Self Portraits
I find that it’s during the hardest times that I am most drawn to creating self portraits. Art can be a powerful outlet to explore your own emotions and experiences.
2020
Here is the first portrait I created during quarantine in the 2020 pandemic lockdown. Like most, I experienced feeling isolated, trapped and fixated on consuming news as my main lifeline to the outer world. News especially during this time felt overwhelming and catastrophic.
I created this video and illustrations to best express how it felt during this time.
2022
This portrait I created when I was 25 and moving multiple times a year with my puppy who was pretty consistently sick for awhile. I felt overworked by my job at the time and created this piece to express myself. Now I look back on it fondly and nostalgically.
I wanted to keep the boxed in feel and composition of the first one but I did change the style and colors based on what felt right.
2023
lots of big feelings this year
2024
I am 27 this year.
So many thoughts in such a little head. Things to remember, irrational fears, valid fears, what-ifs, sparkles and unicorns.
I will continue creating self portraits as life is wild and unpredictable and sometimes you just have to draw it out. When I do create more I will add them here.
